Visitor Information

The University Library Diliman accepts visitors/non-UP researchers including UP alumni, former UP faculty and staff; graduate students from other schools; government and private researchers; and, in a number of libraries, undergraduate students from other schools.

FOR ALL NON-UP RESEARCHERS, please consider the following when planning to visit the University Library, UP Diliman:

  1. The University Library is composed of a Main Library at Gonzalez Hall and more than 40 college/unit libraries in campus. The core collections of a given topic of research or inquiry may be found in the library where the related degree program/course is offered.
  2. It is advised to go to the iLib Web OPAC to do a preliminary search of books, print journals, theses or other library resources. The call number and location of books should be noted to determine the library/ies to be visited.
  3. During the Midyear Term, the Library is open 8:00 AM-5:00 PM during weekdays only. The Library is closed for service to students and visitors during semester/term breaks.
  4. Service hours and scheduled days for visitors may vary across libraries within UP Diliman. Please check the service hours of the library to be visited at the following links:

Below are requirements for non-UP members to access the University Library:

Alumni, former faculty and staff may use the library upon presentation of a valid ID and proof of former UP status. A special library card which will be issued to entitle them to free use of the library for five (5) visits per semester or summer, after which they will pay a research fee of Php 20.00/day or Php 450.00/year or Php 300.00/summer.

Government researchers may use the library upon presentation of a valid office ID and referral letter from the office’s Head Librarian. They will be issued a special library card which will entitle them to free use of the library for five (5) days per semester or summer, after which they will pay a research fee of Php 20.00/day; Php 450.00/semester; or Php 300.00/summer.

Private researchers and graduate students from other schools may use the library on Wednesdays only, upon presentation of a valid office or school ID and referral letter from the office’s or school’s head librarian. They will be issued a special library card upon payment of a research fee of Php 50.00/day; Php 450.00/semester; or Php 300.00/summer.

Undergraduate students (taking up any Bachelor's degree) from non-UP colleges and universities are NOT allowed to use the collections and services at the UP Diliman Main Library. However, they may be accepted in selected unit libraries. To know more which unit libraries accept undergraduate students from other schools, click here. Likewise, the UP Diliman Main Library does NOT accept high school students.

The libraries of the College of Engineering, College of Science, Marine Science Institute (MSI) and National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS) are accepting high school students, particularly from science high schools. This is in line with the College mandate to accommodate science high school students to take science and engineering courses in the future. Procedures

  1. Present requirements and valid school or office I.D. with picture (school/institution/company) to the Security Guard.
  2. Proceed to the Library Cashier and present referral letter and alumni card and/or valid I.D. with picture.
  3. Accomplish the special library card and special library permit form.
  4. Pay the research fee.
  5. Proceed to the desired section of the Library and present the special library card and your valid ID at the control desk/entrance.
  6. Your special library card is valid for one day or within the specified date. Special library card issued by the Unit Libraries (Diliman) can also be used in the University Library.

Restrictions

  1. All materials are for ROOM USE ONLY.
  2. The Research Fee does NOT include tapping of electricity and use of library equipment (e.g. use of computers, scanner, etc.)
  3. Register your electronic devices (laptop, cell phone, etc.) at the counter if you want to charge them and pay the energy use fee (see also: Table of Library Fees).
  4. Taking pictures and videos of the library are subject to the University Librarian's approval.
  5. The University Librarian, Head Librarian or the Librarian-In-Charge reserves the right to cancel requests when necessary.
