Recognition of UP Librarians at PAARL 2025

UP Diliman librarians were recognized for their research and extension activities on the 2025 Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians, Inc. General Assembly (PAARL 2025), held last Jan. 30, 2026 at the National Library of the Philippines in Manila.

The Library Extension Committee bagged the Outstanding Library Program of the Year award for their Librarians Empowerment Action of Diliman (LEAD) program.

Since 2018, LEAD has been a sustainable extension program that provides information literacy programs to communities beyond the walls of UP Diliman. This initiative upholds the principle of providing timely access to information that can transform lives, especially for communities with limited resources.

Chloe Maeve L. Domingo and Nicole R. Zulueta received the 3rd Best Research Award for their paper, “From Research Made Easy to TALASIK: A Mixed-Methods Assessment of the UP Diliman University Library Instruction Program.”

TALASIK is the library orientation and instruction program of the University Library. TALASIK is a contraction of the term talas (keenness) and saliksik (research or exploration). This represents the objective of this program, captured briefly with the words “sharpened research”, to enhance the ability of library users to critically and effectively navigate and evaluate information and to maximize the use of the library’s services and resources in their academic and research endeavors.

The College of Engineering (COE) Libraries won the Innovative Library Design award (Large size category) for their Learning Commons.

The COE Library Learning Commons building was inaugurated on 28 March 2025. The facility features technology-rich spaces that strengthen research and collaboration. It offers academic discussion rooms, HyFlex-ready faculty areas, coworking and conference spaces, a makerspace and creative studio, and training rooms that convert into a full conference hall. The atrium supports exhibits and interdisciplinary exchanges. All of these are supported by strong digital infrastructure that allows seamless access to electronic resources, multimedia tools, and collaborative platforms.

Ms. Rizalyn V. Janio, DPA, Head Librarian of the Information Services and Instruction Section of the UPD Main Library, is elected to the Vice President position for the upcoming year of PAARL activities.
